  • American Elderberry Sambucus canadensis Birds (and people!) love the berries.  Ask for a recipe for elderberry pie! (9'x8') Put this in a naturalized area; the roots send up suckers.
  • Chocolate Peppermint Mentha x piperita  Perennial herb (18"x2')
  • Comfrey Symphytum officinalePerennial herb with large, coarsely hairy leaves. (3'x3') Blue flowers dangle from its arching stems late-spring to early summer. Very attractive. Sterile; plants will no self-sow.
  • Egyptian Walking Onion Allium cepa var. proliferumPerennial vegetable (18"x6") Mild onions that will grow anywhere--even under a maple tree!
  • English Thyme Thymus vulgaris Perennial herb (12"x12") Groundcover. Drought tolerant. White flowers in mid spring.
  • Feverfew Tanacetum parthenium Short-lived perennial herb with white flowers June-Oct. (24”x12”) This is a cultivar packed with white petals and no visible yellow center. Feverfew tea is good for headaches.
  • Garlic Chives Allium tuberosum Perennial herb with white flowers in summer. Attracts butterflies! (18"x12") Pretty enough for the perennial garden.
  • Goldenseal Hydrastis canadensis Native perennial with white flowers in spring and red berries in summer. (18"x9") Very nice groundcover. Will grow under a black walnut tree!
  • Oregano Origanum vulgare Perennial herb. (15"x24") Drought tolerant. Begin harvesting sprigs when plant is 6" tall.

  • Arrowhead plant Syngonium Nice variegation. Fills out its pot beautifully. Cuttings root easily to make more. Good in hanging basket.
  • Basket Plant Callisia fragrans Looks like a bromeliad, but puts out baby plants on runners.
  • Grape Ivy Cissus rhombifolia Tolerates wet or dry soil. Vigorous growth.
  • Japanese Aucuba Aucuba japonica Grows to be a large, solid plant or easily pruned to size once a year.
  • Night-blooming Cereus Epiphyllum oxypetalum Large houseplant with large, exotic white flowers if set outside in the summer
  • Strawberry Begonia Saxifraga stolonifera Sprays of white flowers in spring if put outside for winter. (6"x6") Nice in a strawberry container or hanging basket.
  • Variegated Spider plant Chlorophytum Great in hanging baskets. Puts out baby plants on runners.
